Scammer praying on the WTB section posing as a LE Officer (James Moratti) !!

Someone contacted me regarding a WTB post I made for a Surefire light who later told me he was not a Calguns member but was a police officer. He provided me with pictures of a driver's license, LE ID, and a badge. This person has scammed multiple Calguners because today I reached out to the police department where this phony officer claims to work, spoke with someone there, and they told me this is not the first incident. The scammer stopped for a while but has now started up again. The name of the officer he is claiming to be is JAMES MORATTI. This is a real officer whose identity has been compromised to some extent. I have opened up an investigation on this, and I am on this mother ****ers ***.

How involved is the agency that the guy is claiming to work for? I ASSume that they're not happy about it either.

The first red flag was someone willing to provide a Badge, LEO ID and DL and police creds via the internet for a flashlight.

Are there any LEO's here that would do that?

I spoke with the department today and they told me this criminal has scammed many Calgunners, took a break for a while and started up again... with me. lol.

There is now an active investigation and I have the dude's Wells Fargo account.

I will get this dude. $160 bucks well spent, IMO, to get this dude.

Yeah my red flags went off a little, but he sent me selfies with his ID, which was the red flag, a picture of his badge, and his LE ID. The pics looked convincing and I even call the department to see if he was real, which he is.

It was a small amount of money for me and it was via Zelle so if I was to get ripped off Wells Fargo would reimburse me and I could get his account where the money was sent to via an investigation, which I did today.

Money well spent, of ripped off, to maybe get this guy.

Max penalty for impersonating a LE officer: 2 years/$2K (it's a misdemeanor in CA.)

Go get him. Insist that the dept he claimed to be from go get him.

You should post all of his information online. Scammers need to be run over with a steam roller....

This is news to me. I thought Zelle offered no protection. At least Wells Fargo Zelle has a bunch of scam warnings you need to acknowledge before they will send your zelle payment.

                      Get him OP.

I am surprised that the actual real cop is not pissed off and all over his department to get this ahole.

If they know about it you would actually hope they would do something a bit more expeditiously

The same guy reached out to me regarding my WTB post for a Glock 48 slide. He also provided the photos of the badge and I.D. So apparently he’s still at it.

Yet one would think the actual officer with that name at that agency would be immensely concerned since it's happened before.....?? Or not..
