We are going to do an Appleseed shoot soon and there are not enough 10/22s available, so we are going to have some kids use lever guns. I know the unsuitability of such a gun for the AQT but I really want them to learn how to use the sling the first time anyways and there are no loaners available nor time to get some.
The kids have a several Henrys that don't come with a slings. The good smiths here charge an arm and a leg and multiplied by 5, that's a bunch of ammo. I also want to teach the younger kids that they can do some things by themselves and don't have to farm everything out. Of course that requires not doing a bad job.
I was thinking of making a jig with a piece of angle iron and drilling a guide hole at 45 degrees and affixing a level to it. Then putting the rifles in the sled upside down and just drilling to depth (as measured with tape).
Is there a better way to do this? I don't mind spending a couple of bucks for a better jig but wanted to see your guys take on it.
