    Proof of Residency question

Does the title of a car qualify as proof of residence for a handgun transfer?

I lost my vehicle registration a few days ago but still have the vehicle registration renewal notice + my last years registration. Does this qualify as proof of residence or am I just SOL and need to wait for the new registration to arrive?

I'm not sure about the title or the old reg and renewal notice, but you should be OK with a current utility bill.

You cannot use the renewal notice nor your last years reg because it is not currently valid. Do you have a PG&E Bill? Do you lease or rent? Bring your agreement and that will work.

No, title of the vehicle doesn't work. I asked before, I think maybe because it doesn't have a certain valid date on it? I just know it doesn't work. A better idea would be to talk with the FFL you are going to and ask. Do you own your own home? Who do you live with? You can create a rent agreement that can work.

you've looked at the CADOJ list of acceptable POR, http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/regs/chapter4.pdf ?

You don't have anything on it? No license, permit, or registration of any type from local, state, or federal gov, that has your name/address on it?

If none of the above, then you'll probably have to do the rental/lease agreement option mentioned above.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

No nd No: The scenario you present for the vehicle registration is NO
Your SOL is also a NO because there are many other avenues for you.

I am a Resident Alien born in Canada and just bought a Taurus a month ago and a Ruger Mini-14 today. You definitely need 3 current months of some utility or bank statement. They used to accept car stuff, credit card bills, and such but not anymore. I think they just changed the rules this year. I used to remember a check stub and some other stuff would work. I know if you are a US Citizen, you really don't need any information but since you a green card holder, they require up to date information for 3 whole months.

Every FFL is different. Some don't follow the letter of the law so you have to ask each one what is acceptable proof of residency to them.

That is illegal and in direct violation of DOJ regs.

The whole proof of residency is BS. So if you live out of your car the 2nd A. doesn't apply to you?

Want to bet that they continue to get away with whatever they feel like doing?

I'm certain that unhappy gun customers have complained but it appears that this is a low priority for enforcement. It's pretty much a 'house rules' thing. Whatever they say is policy is how it works.
