local reloading classes

I'm getting close to retirement, and I am thinking about setting up a course to teach reloading so I can keep busy. I would like to do this in my garage in an informal setting.
I have experience in basic pistol, and precision rifle reloading. I have been reloading for about 25 years. My goal is to teach people reloading principles that corresponds to what each person wants to learn.
California from what I can tell, has no regulations for giving classes on reloading.
I don't really want to make money in this venture, I just want to share my knowledge.
Anyone who wants to chime in and give me some advice please do. But keep in mind. Informal, share knowledge, not a business.

First off,

Thanks for being willing to share your knowledge and keeping the sport and tradition alive.

2nd.... you should take the NRA Basic Metallic Reloading Course and become an NRA Certified instructor.

It can also help you with tax deductions as 'expenses'- for supplies possibly.

Private reloading classes were basically shutdown by the ATF due to licensing issues.
It turns out that if someone else loads ammo in your place that YOU are manufacturing ammo, not them and since you are charging them to use your equipment while you teach them, the ATF says that YOU need to be a licensed ammo manufacturer under an 06FFL which carries all the other burdensome requirements that your locality may choose to require of you such as permits, insurance, physical security etc.

It's possible to do what you are asking about, but check into it carefully with all the licensing entities before you really spend any money on the endeavor as you might be surprised what your local govt is going to require of a person setting up an ammo manufacturing company in their jurisdiction.

Good info. It would seem, though, that one could get around this ATF requirement by not charging the students (the OP said he is not in it for the money) and also not having them actually build up any ammo. The OP could simply demonstrate the process by building up a single cartridge, explaining things as he went along.

And Tim, you are absolutely correct about what I want to do. I'm not into this for a business venture. I just want to help fellow sportsmen out and not wase my days being board. But on the other hand I don't need or want any trouble from anyone any time. Thats why I decided to ask for other people input in this forum.

There were a few guys here that put on a reloading clinic. Was quite a long time ago but it was an excellent experience. Wasn’t expensive and at the end of the day we went home with a bag of our own reloads. Thankful to this day they taught me to reload! Might want to reach out to them. If I remember correctly a couple of the guys teaching were Capybara and CScannoner?

One more potential issue to consider - insurance. If something, anything happens, that nice person you were teaching can become a legal nightmare. Even if they just trip over a stray box.

Any time you have anyone at your home, it becomes a place of business and all sorts of potential problem can arise.

We live in a VERY litigious society, coupled with the fact that nobody takes responsibility/accountability for their own screwups anymore. What you're trying to do is both admirable and commendable. And thank you for that. But you certainly don't want to end up in court over this and/or having to pay out big $$. So tread carefully.

I like Tim's idea.

And you could have them sign hold-harmless release, waivers, indemnity agreement, etc., no liability if they make a mistake repeating the process on their own. It doesn't fully hold up in court but usually does a good job of implying it won't at keeping the idiots at bay.

Just showing someone present how to reload rather than having them do so by example, which would take away the impression of manufacturing.

Lastly, if you can't do it in person, why not do an online video series instead? Maybe on Utreon/Playeur or Patreon? Youtube would probably block you.
