    FFL Fees

Its been a while since I have done a PPT last I remember dealers were only able to charge $10 for the transfer.

Now I'm seeing them charging well over $100. What happened between then and now?

Over a hundred for an in person PPT (not OOS transfer or being shipped in)?

There are some douchebag FFLs out there. There's one in SoCal who charges $10/day storage fee during the 10-day DROS wait (Arcadia Firearm and Safety).

If it is a PPT, this is illegal. The law is crystal clear that no other fees by the FFL are allowed beyond the $10.

Remember, though, that a PPT is both people in the store for the transfer and both are Californians. There cannot be any shipping or transfer of ownership that crosses state lines. If it does, then it isn't a PPT and doesn't have the maximum mandated fee of a PPT.

Also note that if the FFL wants to charge a storage fee if you don't pick the gun up at the end of the 10-day wait, they can. Their storage of the gun after day 10 or 11 can reasonably be an additional service they are providing.

Be sure to out the store. The pro-gun crowd needs to know who is playing fair and who isn't.

Disagree. If you don't call out bad behavior, the children never learn their lesson. Their whines about how $10 doesn't compensate them adequately is complete bull ****. They knew that this was an obligation when they applied for their license.

If they had half a brain, they wouldn't play stupid money games and instead train their people how to go after add-ons like ammo, extra mags, holsters, cleaning kits, etc.

Oooooorrrr hear me out, the FFL can follow the law as written and be grateful for the patronage that we give them. 2A Zone has done some PPT stuff for me. Guess who got my pre-order for the M18, and a few other gun purchases that I've had this year.

The FFLs were behind this scam when it was first introduced as law. they wanted to be the ones who were in charge of PPT for the money and it backfired horrendously! If I walk into a lgs and they have some weird PPT rules, I walk out. I'll find another one who will follow the law to the letter.

No 11 day wait, no upcharge in fees/storage, nothing. You get the 10 bucks and that's it. Good FFLs are treated with an ammo or other purchase so they can make a sale, but the trash heaps who lie and manipulate can rot.

                    Agree.

If I am treated nicely, I buy extra stuff to make up for their "trouble".

I can always use some extra targets, CLP, ammo, etc.

                      BullPucky;

                      [axel4488 is correct]

FFLs got exactly what they asked for in 1990. Which was a mandatory monopoly on all firearm transfers in Ca. Forcing customers into their establishments. The $10 fee codified in 1990 was FAT at the time. They screwed US, and the legislature screwed them, by fixing the $10 fee. Which back then is equivalent of $22.30 today.

                      BooHoo

A knowledgeable FFL can do [all the darn paperwork] in 15 minutes. Using the DOJs computerized DES setup. Which is $40 an hour. Not a bad return for a $20 an hour employee.

Bumbling Inept COUNTER MONKEYS take much longer. And also require others to double/triple check their work. These are the same FFLs that whine about losing money on PPTs. And illegally add on bogus fees.

My last couple have been through AAFES, they don't even charge the optional $10. They don't do PPT unfortunately, but new on roster stuff, they are the way to go!

Part of accepting the FFL in California is doing PPTs. Wasn't our idea, it was theirs. If they are new to the business..... welcome to the suck.
                          It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

A competent FFL can do a PPT in 30 minutes imo. It comes down to the customer if they know what they're doing on that paperwork.

But a good salesman will try to upsell needful basics.

I wanted to use a FFL in Rio Vista for a PPT not long ago. He literally wanted $100 including the fees to do the transfer. Besides that he told me it wasn?t worth his time unless he got that much money. I have put him on my no call list.
