Optics Planet (uber thread)

Is this common knowledge that I've missed? They are the only ones with the upper that I want in stock. So I ordered it - over the phone (old school). Operator took the order and never mentioned any issue. This morning I get an "order cancelled" email. I called in... operator says they "can't ship complete UPPERS to CA due to their local laws" - having nothing to do with any perceived CA laws. Interesting.

So its a no go. Kind of stinks, I was looking forward to completing my low cost AR10 in 6.5.

I'm not looking to bash optics planet, I've had OK experiences with them so far. Just putting the word out there in case anyone isn't privy to this as I wasn't.

Sounds about right, they can’t be bothered to figure out local/state laws.

I have not purchased a complete upper from them, but I did build a complete LR308 sans receiver from just their parts

YES, yes it is. A hundred threads here on the exact same topic.

OP will not ship flash hiders to CA, period. That includes anything a flash hider might be attached to. There is a bunch of other black rifle stuff they may not ship - because no out of state seller wants to get sued by San Francisco like Exile Machine, et al

That in CA vary day by day and city by city. It is a wonder that anybody bothers. I really appreciate the ones that do, but I am never going to bash the ones that don't.

Several years ago, Optics Planet adopted a policy, similar to what Cheaper Than Dirt and Sportsman's Guide have, that prohibits selling/shipping items that they think is illegal to CA.

I get it. Feel the same way about plenty of businesses. But when the manufacturer is out of stock (has been for a while), your local stores don't have it, and the only alternative is some fly-by-night website that you've never heard of; you start to think maybe I'll just friggin order it from optics planet.

Naturally, that wasn't in the cards. So back to waiting indefinitely.
