I still remember having loaded guns in our cars when I was in high school in Anaheim.

Gun racks in our trucks. Nobody flinched.

I remember selling ppt in parking lots. Or at home.

All this during my life in CA.

Even so, CA has a long history of “gun control”

When I was young, Sears would sell you any rifle and shotgun ammo if you were at least 16 years old. But they would not sell .22LR unless you were at least 18 because any rounds which could be used in a handgun you had to be 18.

We all had rifle racks in our trucks, and would drive around with rifles in them with no problem as long as the bolt was removed. At least that is what the cops used to tell us.

Handguns could be transported inside the car, as long as they were unloaded and visible. If they were concealed that was a problem, and any ammo had to be locked in the trunk. I never followed this rule as I always figured it was weird if I was stopped and laying on the back seat was a visible handgun.

We frequently hiked in the San Gabriel mountains open carrying. No ranger ever even batted an eye, as long as we were open carrying and not target shooting near a trail, a structure, or picnic area. Otherwise we went target shooting pretty much anywhere it was safe to do so (proper backstop).
