Actually, Joe (I don’t know if he still works there) let us shoot steel jacketed ammo at Burro on RAINY days, for obvious reasons. I don’t know if that is still allowed, but it was a while back. Of course, we used up all that garbage ammo and will not be purchasing more.
But yes, on any regular, normal day, don’t shoot steel jacketed, bi metallic, or M855’s in SoCal outdoor ranges.NRA Pistol/Rifle Instructor

After all the venting (above), here is what the website says:
AMMO RESTRICTION
NO STEEL CORE, STEEL JACKET OR BI-METAL AMMUNITION ALLOWED, DUE TO FIRE RESTRICTIONS.
and here is the definition of bi-metal ammo: Bi-metal ammunition is a type of ammunition that uses a steel jacket rather than copper
Therefore you are good to go."I am responsible for what I say, not what you understand."
or to say it another way:

Just for fun. my local indoor range says: no hollow point ammo. Since we are only allowed to shoot at paper targets with a rubber filled back stop I haven't been able to figure out what the threat is. Other than a person's need to shoot high cost hollow point ammo.

Does the range use steel hangers to hold the paper targets? Yeah, then an accidental strike of the hanger will cause a hollow point jacket to separate from the lead core and fly back like a frisbee.Comment

I always thought it was a remnant from when indoor ranges used steel bullet traps? Cuz the hangers, at least at the indoors I go to, don't have surfaces perpendicular to the direction of fire. Either way, don't shoot the hangers and everything is fine.Comment
