I purchased BA for some of the OPs reasons. My reasons and criteria are a little different.
"Better to have and not need...", might become unavailable in the future.
Wearing to the range or BLM shooting. For me, only occasionally to BLM to practice shooting while wearing the BA. As most know, it's different.
I regularly wear it around the house/property once a month to maintain familiarity with it.
I have steel plates, all 4 sides. It's heavy. But if I NEED to put it on, I ain't "running & gunnin'". I'm too old for that. My intention is more "entrenched defensive position". While family evacuates if it comes down to it.

If the place you are shooting makes you think you need armor find a different place to go.

As I stated was just looking for potentially a bit more peace of mind, and to get something now in case Sacramento cooks up a law to ban armor.

The other thread has a lot of good info, but doesn't give good feedback on how comfortable/feasible it is that people will actually wear the armor in general. However it seems that it will likely be one of those things that it is too uncomfortable to wear and likely just get left at home for general use.

I was very interested in this type of soft armor, but it does cover rifle rounds unfortunately. It does look like it will be much more feasible to wear in general, may be a good option for public ranges, as the pistol side is typically the most dodgy.

Honestly even wearing soft armor for an extended amount of time takes a ton of discipline. You could just buy a cheap surplus IIIA soft armor vest and see how you like wearing that to begin with.

I’ve never heard of soft armor that can stop rifle velocity. I looked at the link. Neat, but unless I missed it the rifle rating is. It NIJ backed.

Maybe it is NIJ tested. The site comes in weird on my phone.

OP, if youre concerned about pistol and comfort just get a level II vest as that will cover most pistol threats up to .357 mag. And you can wear it under a tshirt no one will even know. But probably not necessary at a supervised range.
