How to get COE (certificate of eligibility)?

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before (I'm sure it has). But I could not find the process on how to obtain COE, only people listing their experiences and timeline of getting COE.

So, how do I apply for one? I have FFL03 already. I figure COE might be worth it now that we need FFL03+COE to buy ammo online.

I haven't shot a gun for 5.5 years until a few weeks ago. The mental picture of ammo pricing was from 5.5 years ago. I almost fainted when I saw a brick of 22LR was $45+ and 357sig was $1/round

For those who think it's easier to annoy you than to Google 'Doj certificate of eligibility application' themselves.

What is a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)? A “Certificate of Eligibility” certifies the Department of Justice (DOJ) has checked its records and determined the recipient is not prohibited from acquiring or possessing firearms at the time the firearms eligibility criminal background check was performed.

        Thanks guys!

Some more questions. Is COE strictly firearm related? Does it do anything else? Is this a California thing?

It is firearm related. There are other reasons besides FFL03 to obtain a COE, for example, certified firearm instructors can get COE's as well. The benefits it offers for that classification is different, but a COE is not unique to just FFL's.

It is a CA thing, as it is issued by the CA DOJ, not US Federal DOJ.

The ammunition prices in gun stores here is exactly why I proceeded to get mine. Buying ammo online feels great (again.)

            Thanks!

I really need to get out of this commie state. But family and friends....

I just checked, Freedom Munition/LAX Ammo does not ship to CA. SGAmmo doesn't ship to CA either. AimSurplus and JGSales do. Prices are not as good as FM/LAX reloads but still pallatable.

Go to: ammoseek.com. It’s like a google search specifically for ammo listed by price, lowest first.

i get my ammo through targetsportsusa.com and their $99/yr membership. Free shipping and decent prices. I just got tired of trying to find the combo of willing to ship to CA AND good prices. Upload your COE with them, and shop away like normal.

Targetsportsusa.com is also where I shop, they ship to FFL03+COE holders. They have an annual membership of $100 that give you free shipping and 8% discount (almost covers the tax). That way I don't have to put big orders together to save on shipping, because it is free.

What's really cool is they send you a free item with that membership cost. I got a free Bluetooth speaker with mine. I think right now its a box of 9mm ammo and a cleaning kit.

Brownells, Champions Choice also support FFL03+COE.

I find the FFL03/COE doesn't do much at Brownells. Maybe it's because it's what I buy?

I am conflicted about having to have special licensing for things like online ammo. Probably should be different thread, but yeah.

What I love about the COE is that's it's good for some things and not other things. It's clear it was intended as an impediment, not an actual exemption for anything.

                            1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
                            2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
                            3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
                            4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).
