    My Smith and Wesson Experience

I have purchased about a dozen Smith and Wesson handguns in my life. I have only had issues with one.

I bought a brand new 442-1 No lock J-Frame earlier this year. I had one previously but sold it - then realized I wanted one again. Comparing the new one to how I remember the last one - the quality does not seem as good. The finish was ok - but like how it was engraved for serial number / manufacturer info ect seemed a bit rough.

I started dry firing it just to break it in a bit but experienced a few issues. Every once in a while, one of two things would happen. The trigger would become very difficult to pull, and sometimes it would stay stuck in the back of the stroke, and I would have to help it forward. Keep in mind I have done no modifications and had not shot it before.

So I called Smith and Wesson to explain my issue. Before the call was over, they had emailed me a free FedEx 2-Day Air label. I went to a local FedEx location and sent off the box.

    Timeline:
Call to Smith and Wesson / Ship item: 06/09/2023
    Package Delivered: 06/11/2023
Email to confirm receipt by Smith and Wesson: 06/14/2023
Shipped back to me from Smith and Wesson: 07/26/2023
    Shipment returned home: 07/28/2023

I will update the final results once I receive the package. Just thought I would share in case someone has a similar issue.

Bought a used M&P-22 sub-compact here in Nevada. The original owner never sent in the registration card so I sent it in. A few weeks later the rear sight screws went flying off . Contacted S&W they sent me a new front and rear sight set.

They've always been like that to me as well. One of many reasons I am a huge fan of them.

            Update;

Received today and paperwork states it was inspected / repaired - hammer replaced

Dry firing seems much better. Overall satisfied

I only bought two S&W revolvers in the last 20+ years. The 686 Plus four inch in 2018 has been great (Calgunners selected it for me in a Poll) The 637 was a lemon I got in 2010 or so.

In the 1970s I bought used S&W revolvers in 38 and 357 and never had a problem.

I wouldn’t buy a S&W made after 2000. Or any revolver with a Hillery hole. That’s just me.. but the craftsmanship of the 20s thru 70s Smiths are unsurpassed.

My 15-4 Combat Masterpiece was made in 1980 and has the smoothest action of all of my revolvers (except maybe my Kimber K6S DASA). Both are pretty close.

Always like S&W. Currently carry 60-7 snubby every day.

Only one I had issues with was a new Model 28 Highway Patrolman.
Not enough clearance between forcing cone and cylinder.

After firing, the cylinder would expand enough to drag on the forcing cone. The fixed it by shaving a little off the cylinder.
