History Channel HD- Lock n Load

Pretty cool show about guns on History channel HD right now. Shooting a bunch of MGs. R. Lee Ermey uses empty pistol brass as hearing protection. Does that actually work?

I've been stuck at work for a couple of days so have not had a chance to see the show on DVR, but...I would assume that anything that blocked your ears would reduce the noise somewhat. Not something I'd use for day to day shooting...maybe only if I forgot my ears at home.

I've used some empty 9mm casings before. I can still hear.

I can't imagine the residue inside the case being good for the ears

I thought you were supposed to put them in with the case mouth pointing away from your ear? I have not tried it myself but I have seen others do this, when it was all that there was available.

He's going to a shoot (firearms and film) and nobody out of the 300 people, including the arms master, thought to bring hearing protection. BS

i've seen both episodes for the show so far. cool show, i've always liked his shows... his show MAIL CALL was cool too. ive seen him using empty cases as hearing protection on other shows as well.

I thought the show a bit boring, Im tired of blowing up paint jars and watermelons. I wish there was a more serious show that had a bit more focus on various eras and weapon groups. The producers of the show just went to a gun shot and pulled varius attendees aside to shoot for the camera, cheap and lazy.

I've used them in a pinch with the case mouth inserted in my ear. As a previous poster used, a 9mm worked best for me.

As for the show the whole yelling thing gets old real quick for me. Now I just have the remote in-hand and mute ready when his eyes start to bug.
