Why do people press check?

Coz if you normally carry loaded, a press check lets you check the chamber without ejecting a round.

Now dont tell me you always know if your gun is loaded. Its just as important to confirm if a gun is loaded just like checking if its unloaded.

ultimately same reason you check the chamber every time you hand the gun to someone. memory is fallible. there are certain people who will use the term "never" in reference to things like press checking because they want to appear to be better than the other experts(see james yeager).

This is a thread topic that pops up every once in a while, just like the "what's the best gun oil" thread. Answer is...some people do it, other's don't for a bunch of different reasons. If you do it, you do it, and if you don't, you don't. There's more than one way to do something.

I press check every time I grab my carry sidearm, as well as check I have a full magazine.
