Tips for selling parted out guns.

I was thinking I may have more guns than I need and I may need some dental work in the near future .

So I've got a couple ARs that I built and a Glock also and it seems like it would simplify things to part them out , and I would possibly get a better return on my investment as well.

I'm curious what anyone else's thoughts are on that.
I have an Aero AR 10 upper and a few barrels in .308 and a Glock slide and barrel.

I could sell them complete as well, but selling the parts avoids the FFL

    Thanks in advance for suggestions

Getting a return is unlikely unless it?s election season with a Gun grabber or mass hysteria/fear with covid style issues. I made my best returns in those periods. Otherwise you?re going to likely be in the red against new pricing. Too many sales of 20% off going on through vendors around holidays and it kills the second hard market.

Post a thread in the proper fs forums. Maybe someone will bite who is local and can save on shipping/taxes.

    Good luck!

Ebay could net you nearly the price of a new Glock on the Glock slide and barrel: lots of people out there with 80%/P80 frames in desparate need of slides and barrel, and they'll get into illogical bidding wars about it for them. People with little care about what it will cost them vs actually having them. Those will sell fast.

Ebay won't let you post the AR15 parts, and will cancel them and/your account if you do. But there's always here and Gunbroker for that. You probably won't sell those as fast or for an attractive price; lots of AR15 parts inventory out there right now, ovetstocked, plus lots of cheap quality stuff dragging down the price of everything else.

Though with a few states passing new 'AW' bans this past week and others being fortified by certain courts, there may be a new scramble for parts soon.

Just post them here. You most likely will take a loss on all the ar stuff. Ar do not appreciate for the most part. Even the hi end ones because they are are so plentiful and so are the parts. Only guns with limited runs go up in price.

If I post in marketplace ?

OK - So if I post AR an upper on Marketplace
Is it advantageous to sell the entire upper intact or would it be better to break it down into individual components?
Just curious what other guy's experiences are on that.

            Thanks

I'd guess you could make a bit more by selling part by part, but that results in a time suck on your end. Obviously, you may not sell all the parts. I'd suggest selling the upper on arfcom. Much better support and flakes there are banned post haste.

Definitely upper as a whole with carrier and bolt. Most people just want to attach an upper and go, and are not true 'builders' - even though they think resourcing an upper makes them one. You'll get more money for the whole upper, and it will sell faster. Parted out, will take forever.

Only thing you may want to sell separate would be high-value BUS, optics, or other easily detached items.

What is your time worth to you?

Managing, the auction, shipping, feedback all takes time. Sometimes you can be ahead by taking a monetary loss versus a loss to your time

Everybody’s different, you may have a lot of time on your hands, I don’t know.

Either way, just something to think about…

You're going to spend way more time and effort parting things out, and may not work out the way you want as far as thinking it will be more lucrative selling parts individually. Keep in mind you are probably also going to have to ship everything individually, which costs money. Plus, instead of finding only two potential buyers (one for each firearm) you're going to have to rely on multiple people if you part out the firearms. You're also probably not going to get what you think you're going to get for everything and will take a hit, depending on how desperate you are for cash and how fast you want to sell things.

I personally prefer to sell things for less in order to just get them sold and not have to constantly deal with all the low-ballers and tire-kickers and be done with it.
