Looking to darken my 870 furniture... suggestions?

    Hey Y'all,
I just got a great deal on a used older 870, but the wood furniture is a tan/yellowish color, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions regarding oiling/staining the wood to darken it up. I can't really sand it because that would remove the fine grooves, but I was wondering if anyone has done this and can point me in the right direction. Ideally I would like to bring it to a deep brown. Thanks in advance.

If you want, take a couple of pictures and show me. Maybe I could give you some tips.

*Strip wood completely w/ stripper and dry thoroughly
Sand w/ 80 grit - 220 sand paper then steel wool
Stain w/ whatever color suites your fancy (make samples on same species of wood if you like)
Oil w/ 50% linseed oil and 50% turpentine solution a few times rubbing w/ 000 steel wool each time
        Done
Or, varnish, lacquer or urethane instead of using oil

*You'll probably have to use tools (picks etc.) for all the cracks and crevasses

I also would like to know what I should use on my Nill grips if I would want to refinish them? Sorry OP for the Hi-Jack....

Don't know what kind of wood the Nills are but I would like more of a sheen to them a little like my Sig 228's walnut grips..
