    OP,
It's classic vs novel. Nothing to do with the cost or efficiency.

While I see your point, I disagree at least in part. To me I like the solid feel of a metal framed gun over a plastic frame. You talk about durability. Now, while I will admit it is unlikely that anything I will ever do will cause a plastic frame to fail, if that were a concern, the ease of replacement is not a pro in my opinion. If it is something that I am trusting my life with, I want it to be solid and just not fail.

I agree the concept of a nearly indestructible FCU that can be dropped into plastic *or* metal frames is very compelling.

Though they don't come up often, we have seen pics of Sig P2xx series and even steel frame 1911 with slide rails broken off (like in this thread) or Sig P2xx series with busted holes in the frame where the mag release used to be, because swapping the release around can go bad. And the occasional cracked Glock frame.

Imagine never having to throw away a gun over that kind of damage - especially when some states are making guns incredibly expensive and arduous to obtain.

The AXG frame for P320 FCU is pretty nice if you like metal frames, you can even have wood grip panels
