    BLM Ranges

I live in San Pedro and work out of Norwalk.

Does anyone know of any BLM land that's not too far away that's suitable for shooting on?

I have some reloads I need to try out before making more.

    Thank you.

Imperial county is open year round. Only 113 degrees on Saturday. Wear shorts, sandals and a wife beater shirt (Arizona uniform).

    Bring sunscreen.

Shooting on BLM can be a real PITA. Things change almost all of the time. No rain = dry conditions. Too much rain = too much flora (this is the worst BS excuse that BLM uses)

We shoot on some privately owned property surrounded by BLM. It's not TOO FAR and we never run into anybody out there.

No offense but people would be crazy to share their spot. Your best bet is to do your research and talk to the local LE.

Talking to local LE is how I found our (MLC) spot.

I should have said that things never change. They do their best to keep us off THIER land. I used to think it was the people's land but I was wrong about that.

Thanks a lot, so how does it work? Can you just go anywhere in the sea green areas and shoot? even if it's not a designated area without targets?

So maybe I'm driving on the 58 and then just pull over and I can go shooting? How far do I have to walk from the road?

Why drive 1 1/2 hours or more just to test loads. Unless your going to take your equipment with you.
Just go to the local range to test.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

There is a legend in the corner of what you're allowed to do. IIRC you need to be 100 yards from the road and 300 yards from any structure (not certain on those numbers but should be close). Plenty of empty desert where you won't find another person. Most go to well know spots like Hodge Road. Just be mindful of the know your target and what lies beyond rule of shooting AKA have a backstop

I think Hodge Road is a good start and especially if you are taking inexperience shooters (which I highly recommend taking to local ranges). Here are reasons why:

                              1. Easy access to help, if needed . Remember, if you venture into BLM land and go deep into the middle of nowhere, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. If an accident/incident happens, you better be prepared to handle it. Help is hours away if it comes at all. Going out to get help is the same.

                              2. To get a feel of what your doing and what to look for. When you get off the 15 and start heading west on Hodge road, it?s very easy to recognize where to shoot, as there old targets and debris left behind by others (sure ugly sight, but it is what it is).

                              3. Not everyone has a truck to be driving around in the middle of the desert not knowing what terrain they will have to overcome.

If you can slip in on a weekday, Hodge is great as it?s generally empty, even right off the highway. If you decide to head up on the weekend, make sure you take a 4x4 vehicle with at least a minivan?s clearance to go deeper into the area. Otherwise, get there super early and leave as the horde arrives.

I was just up in Hodge rd. A few days ago, we got there pretty early and left before noon. The place was pretty empty.

For BLM land, think about what equipment and skills you?ll need to venture into this realm. I?m sure you can find someone who is willing to share a good spot for you to go (probably their number 4 or 5 spot, not their top 3).
