    Serial numbers

What is the difference between a gun without a serial number and a gun with an engraved serial number that is not recorded anywhere?

    A felony

    Are you referring to non-C&R?

Depends on the state. My state does not have a law in place that requires a serial number to be engraved on a home-built firearm. Californians I believe have to apply for one prior to starting a build.

I've only seen one pre '68 GCA firearm without a S/N. An old Mossberg 185 bolt action shotgun. AFAIK its entered into DROS as NSN.

Hey brother, I've owned and seen lots of older guns (all have been 22 caliber) without a serial #. Unfortunately I haven't bought or sold one in 20 years.

My advice on the two examples that you posted wouldn't go over well with the mods but I'm sure you know what my advice might be on the 2.

I think it might help if you were a little more specific regarding your question/OP...

I have owned a couple non serialized firearms (never serialized from factory). Transferring them is no issue. A serial with no prior record of transfer is no issue either. Not sure what you are actually asking.
