Yeah I saw this too a few years back, never get tired of watching it. He's a pretty good shot too, three shots fired and all were hits, within two seconds.

While I feel this is a strong case for CCW, I get tense every time I see that baby nearly in the line of fire. Too bad the mother had no survival instincts... like to hit the floor. "Oh my God" isn't necessarily the best way to react to gunfire.

I did the first time I saw the video as well, but after that, I took something into consideration:

From the angle of the camera, It looks like the good guy is firing within inches of the little girl's head. He is NOT. The good guy is firing (at a minimum) of 2 and a half feet to the right of the little girl. Judging from the width of the printer on the counter, and the fact that the good guy's gun is well to the right of it, and the fact that the girl is to the left, You can see at least a 2.5ft buffer zone between the line of fire and the child.

While this may not be a great place to put someone while shooting at the range, I see that as a perfectly comfortable space to stop an attacker with a gun.

Why do videos like this rarely, if ever, make it on the news! On a daily basis we see videos of crimes commited with guns that turn out bad for the victims. We do not see enough of these types of videos!

It's as if shes just waiting for the robbery to be over so she can finish her transaction!

In addition to fight or flight there is the freeze reaction. I'm not qualified to say if that is what happened only to suggest that it is a possibility.

Put yourself into the possible mindset of a tired mother at the end of a long day with kid(s) and checking into a motel where you are going to have to continue working for another hour or so looking after the kid(s) before you can get some rest and maybe some sleep. She might have been driving all day while looking after the kid(s), etc. Actually there seem to be many possible reasons for her actions including that maybe she thought that not drawing attention to herself and her child, during an armed robbery, might be a good idea. Just sayin...

I have seen responses like hers before in other unusual/high stress/emergency situations. In one of them I saw five or six men just freeze and gawk while the situation unfolded. I spoke to them repeatedly but might as well have been talking to the wall--all I got were expressionless stares in return.
