If you're looking for an outdoor range, I would recommend Burro Canyon. Great range and staff and not as busy as Angelus.

The new 'members only' indoor range in LA has a $250, $400, and $1600/month membership tiers, but whether or not either price point is of value to you, is something only you can decide. It's called The Range LA.

A couple canyons over from Angeles is Gopher Flats.
                  There are 4 clubs there.
                  All are private.
It's a few hundred dollars a year for membership and you usually have to work a couple days a year as well as be sponsored by a couple members to join.
Once you are a full member, you get a key-card that opens the gate and you can go anytime you want during the week.
The first 4 weekends of each month are reserved for the 4 clubs to hold matches but you can shoot on un-used ranges if there are any left.

                      Good info, thanks.
I used to be a member of Corona Sportsman's but let my membership lapse when I moved to LA...it'd be nice to have a comfortable place to shoot again.

I'm not sure how private you want, but check out California Tactical Academy. It's 40/45 mins from Angeles Shooting Range.
I pay $399/year. It's supposed to be for one range, but I've been able to use Action Pistol and X3 Multi Gun with the same membership.
But if you have a group of friends that go with you as well (regularly or not), you can split that membership costs with them.

I'll try to make it short.

If you were to just privately rent the Action Pistol range (steel targets) it would cost $350 for 4 people for 4 hours, or $87.50 per person.
But if you pay for the $399 membership, your entry is included/free, 2nd person is $25, and any additional person after is $40. And you still get 4 hours. But this is for the entire year, not just one time.
If you do the math, paying that extra $49 was well worth it, since we're there at least once a month.

I just looked at "The Range LA" shooting range web page. $20,000 per year? WTF, They need to be handing out free guns and unlimited ammo at that price, and I probably still wouldn't join!
