    Comp Mag Feeding Issues

I tried out two of my mag locked ARs, one in 300blk and the other .308, both using Gen 3 Comp Mags. There were constant failures to feed and the bullets would either nose dove prior to the barrel, or (the more common) somehow move about halfway forward and the BCG would slam down about halfway down the case pinching it with the projectile pointing upward near the top of the barrel extension and the *** end basically sitting in the mag. This happened constantly and basically made them useless. The 300blk even had a projectile dislodge and dump powder all of the internals so I just put that away
I loaded the 300blk full and partial and .308 full and partial. I kept it angled to the right so the ammo laid in nicely. The .308 also stopped locking open with the follower lever or whatever it is.
Needless to say it was very disappointing, but maybe it was user error? Any tips?

My compmags I’ve been a bit finicky from time to time. However, my buddies failed miserably at our last range outing. He had to use the charging handle to put around in the chamber with every shot. He contacted compmag and they replaced his magazine. But also, it may have been that his gun was pretty dirty. With a good cleaning in the new compmag it’s doing better now.

Hmm these were freshly cleaned and first range trips so definitely not dirty. We ended up just sticking a round in the chamber and releasing the BCG which I know I a no-no generally and I didn’t like doing it but it was the only way to keep shooting. Which also mean my mag was useless anyway.

Both of mine are 223/556 and they fed fine.

Hmm maybe I'll get some snap caps and see if I can figure it out. I like the idea of the comp mag, hopefully I can get this figured out.

Op are you using a compmag designed for 5.56? I recall Lancer mags have very subtle differences between 5.56 and 300blk mags (eg the track/guide/rib on each side of the follower is smaller in 300blk version) to make the 300blk feed more reliably.

Perhaps there is something about the compmag design that is not playing nice with the 30cal projectile ?

Also how does it feed when using detachable std cap magazines? Could be worth considering freedom week mags + featureless if it’s going to give you 100% reliability

Ya the 300blk was in their 5.56 version, but I had just as many problems with my .308 in their .308 version I may end up going featureless on my .308, but my 300blk is AR pistol. Worst case I’ll get a diff mag lock, but I’ll try to just feed some from a standard mag and see what happens.

If you have one of the first or second runs of Compmags, they know there an issue with them. I contacted them and they sent replacements out. The new ones work as intended with no issues. This was a few years ago though.

Sorry but friends don't let friends buy comp mags.

Why not? Compmags are all I recommend to everyone. I wish they made one for the AR9 platform.

My (newly manufactured) Compmag is about as reliable as my stepdad, looks like I?ll be sticking with the Franklin DFM.

Tried one for an AK. One range trip and it came off. Problematic.
