Oaktree Rifle Range brass only (no steel/aluminum)

Went there this morning and noticed a new sign at the register. It said brass only and no steel/aluminum case. Employee said they're starting to reload and they don't steel/aluminum to damage their equipment.

Unfortunately, I was there to shoot my PWS 11.5" pistol in x39 and I brought steel case range safe ammo.

I just ordered a magnetic shell pickup stick so I'm planning to go there next week and see if they'll let me shoot steel case ammo if I pick it up and dispose of it.
Too many rifles, not enough time...

Wouldn't it just be easier to toss the steel and other in the trash... Why are they making it harder for us at the range?

This could be necessary for the business to survive, or it could be seeking extra profit to fund lavish coke and stripper parties. Either way it?s their house, so their rules. I doubt a promise to pick it up would be sufficient, having worked with the general public I know what allowing people to break rules because they promised to do things results in over time.

Its so they can get free cases to supply the reloads they're going to sell.

Oaktree has been commercially reloading for years.

Not sure real reason for policy change

Can you shoot berdan primer ammo?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Are they going to 'police' people from taking home their own brass? Hope it doesn't come to that.

Their house, their rules. At the same time it just for the profit. Field Time in Stanton have similar rules for similar reasons. That’s why I don’t patronize them. Eff Em.

Considering how little they probably make off of range time alone, I don?t mind them trying to make a buck off of reloads. I think a good compromise would be a dedicated lane where steel is allowed to keep brass sweeping easy but still giving an option for Tula bros

When components were short, they were selling the brass to a recycling plant that came and picked it up. Opposed to storing up some brass so they had stuff to reload when primers, powder, their "burned down" reloading store came back, they wanted to keep making money.

They changed the range charges to hourly, I was there yesterday and I was the only person from 8 am to 10 am. I buy the yearly membership during black Friday.

I know the RSOs well. Management is super hard on this new no steel or aluminum cases rule that upper female Management passed (if you know oaktree, you know why I said female).

They were OK with me still grabbing my brass which was nice.

Oaktree used to be an awesome place. The problem I have with it now is, it's trying to be run like a business that doesn't care about the customers experience. Steel targets with holes in them, target bases that are broken, cease fires that last 20 to 30 mind when your charging by the hour, and now no more shooting AK/ steel cases regardless of you pick up with a magnet.

Again, rirfle staff especially are cool dudes, it's the leadership that has been making dumb choices.

As I've never seen .22LR with a steel case, and the Armatix was only ever chambered in .22LR, they're merely appeasing a manufacturer they support, regardless, if it's no longer made.

Their loyalty to those with whom they partner is commendable. Anything that they can do to give their partnering ventures an edge over the competition, certainly helps.

The Soviet Union/Russia made steel cased 22lr, and a I believe a bunch of it actually made it into the US. I've only seen pics of it, but it's still a neat footnote.

Nothing new, the ban on steel was there already for years

I have some of that terrible Russian steel case 22lr. I bought it years ago (at least 30 years) at Fed Ord in South El Monte. I shot about 25 shots in my Smith Wesson 41 (this stuff was marketed as match ammo). The last shot blew out the rear of the case (the flat part) and sprayed me with gunpowder. This was the worst ammo I ever used because of the many misfires and case failure. I still have one full box and one half box. I kept it as a reminder of the worlds worst 22lr ammo.

If the county is being picky, the fired steel cases (or fired brass cases, for that matter) are considered hazmat for general waste pickup, due to lead contamination (from primer residue.)

Apparently doesn't apply if you take it for recycling (at least I've never heard of a recycling place treating it like that); only for regular community trash/garbage pickup.
