But, because I was inactive and uninformed for some time, I am not sure. Besides, I have never owned any of the rifles on the "Banned List".
If a person who is otherwise not restricted from owning a firearm, wanted to buy an "Assault Weapon" as defined in the ban, is it possible to buy one from a friend, who legitimately has one, that he posesses lawfully?
I have a few friends who have some AR-15, AR-180, AUG, etc type weapons, which they have legitimately, and legally. Could I buy from them, and just have some hoops to jump through, so to speak? Or are they banned from ever transferring them in CA?
Reason I ask is, in these economic times, money's tough for many, and it may be an opportunity to acquire something I have never owned, but desire, and help a friend make ends meet, at the same time. But, if I cannot do so legally, I will not do it. As a retired cop, I have no desire to lose my privileges to own and carry a firearm. Certainly not, just to satisfy the urge to own something, I'll be able to buy in a couple of years, when the wife retires, and we move out of The People's Republik of Kalifornia.
I have a feeling that it will not be possible to do so, but I may be wrong, and am sure someone here can give me the straight skinny on the question.
