Walker Razor Sound Compression not working?

I bought some of these when they were on sale. I had a chance to try them for the first time yesterday.

The sound doesn't seem to "cut out" when exposed to a hand clap or fired cartridge. It seems it just keeps the sound at the volume level I put the speakers on. So basically hearing protection but with speakers.

I"m used to some old Caldwell's that fully cut out any amplified sound when sensing loud noises.

It is normal for the Walkers to do this? Or is there something wrong with them?

This is normal for better quality electronic hearing protection. This is so that the sounds you do want to hear doesn't completely cut out while shots are being fired. As long as the sounds you hear aren't so loud that it's causing damage to your hearing, they're working properly.

Your new muffs are a compression muff. They compress the sound to a safe level. I find that I need the volume to be low for most comfort.

Just my $0.02 OP, upgrade to gel cups (walker sells separately). It’s a huge comfort improvement and the nicer seal keeps your ears safer too

When you are ready to upgrade, look into Sordin Pro X. The ability to hear direction of where voices comes from is nice so you can talk to your friends more comfortably and naturally. Much better audio quality as well in my opinion
