Storage of guns while work being done on house... advice needed...

    Hi folks,

We had a water leak, which lead to mold, and now they found asbestos.... So we're going to have to move out of the house for a while (maybe a few weeks) while the work is being done....

The work will all be done downstairs, and my gun cabinet is upstairs.

Even though the room that the cabinet is in will be locked, and has an alarm on the door, I'd like to store the rifles & pistols somewhere safe.... offsite...
I'll have to leave the ammo... too much to move.

Are there any places one can do this? Local gun shops? Any suggestions?

    I'm in Orange County.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions...

My first thought is family preferably local who can help transport them. Second, would be very close friends. Back in the day some gun shops would do it and charge a storage fee but not sure today.

Pawn them? It would be expensive, you'd have to re-dros, and pawn shop employees will play with your guns. Guaranteed.

Buy a gun cabinet, put it in your car, throw all your stuff in there, and sleep in your car.

Wish I had your ammo problem... I'd take the time to move the ammo. Get a hunting camera with cell service and put it in the room.

Good luck on that renovation, it might take longer so plan on the worst.

I have stored friends stuff, and they have returned the favor. I even had one buddy pay to move his safe to my place while he was overseas for a year.

If you store with a buddy shut up about it. Cannot do it legally. Lots of posts on this. Put in storage so yrthat no access unless they remove all your other stuff you store. Put washer dryer and frigin front of safe and then mattresses and boxes of books, bric brac, dishwear, etc.

I like that idea ....wrap some old sheets or blankets / then duct tape
Stack Stuff in front of it ......

I have a heavy felt movers blanket draped over it , held in place with large magnets
Just looks like some junk covered up and stored in the garage
No worries about leaving garage door open while I'm doing stuff

                  Insurance should cover theft

Get 3 more gun cabinets. Position all 4 into a square with the "real" gun cabinet touching a corner of your wall/room. Anchor the 3 "false" cabinets, and fill with junk.

Frame in a door on the stairs and barricade lock. Prevent the ability to access upstairs.

Check websites and call local shops in your area. Somebody probably offers storage. There's a shop in San Diego that does it but that's probably farther than you want to drive.

Will it replace RAWs? Will it replace pre-ban magazines? Will it replace unfindable guns? Will it replace pistols that are now off-roster?

BTDT. 6 belts of linked M-60 ammo were stolen from me. Not sh*tty XM80 crap, real issue Lake city from the 80's. Irreplaceable in kali.

If possible I would remove all gun related items before the work is even done. There was a post here not too long ago from a user who had a bunch of guns stolen from his home a few days after a moving company was there to help move furniture from his house. Whoever is doing the work on your home might take notice of your firearms, and plan to come back later. So I would be more concerned about burglary after the fact, rather than during your repairs. Don't leave anything around that suggests you have firearms, or keep your safe hidden and locked away in an inaccessible location if possible.
