New gun game, name only one, it's for science.

I wondered how many gun manufacturers are no longer with us in any way, shape or form.

So just name One (1) gun manufacturing name brand (good or bad, big or small) that is no longer around in Any way ( = that no one has bought the rights to their name, like Ruger / Marlin, and many others) and then we would have an estimate of how many makers are no longer around to compare to other durable goods manufacturers.

Please make each manufacturer name a separate post, even if you know a bunch and want to list them all at once, so that we can get a approximate total just by the total amount of replies.

And to win the big prize of being the most knowledgeable (and good guesser) of firearms company numbers... Just guess the total number of replies this thread will receive. Closest to the correct answer is the winner.

(*Maybe sometime in the distant future this total list could help some lawyer prove that gun manufacturers have been good, taxpaying, employee generating, money making and often american-based companies that should be encouraged and not vilified...but I kind of doubt that scenario.)

And I think the total is going to be 143 listed gun manufacturing names

      Iver Johnson firearms

And my next guest is they're going to be 93 total responses.

** Someone pointed out that Iver Johnson is currently reorganized / or the name bought and making 1911s so that was an incorrect guess. I will list an alternate I guess below in the same post so that the total is not affected.
Also if you're not sure if the manufacturer has been bought out or their name has been reused a quick search on Wikipedia will tell you that some companies like Harrington and Richards/ H&R or Iver Johnson for example, still have a website so someone still is running something.

My new guess for this post is...

The Ortgies , was a hammerless semi-automatic pistols that was produced in Germany in the years immediately after World War I, first by its inventor Heinrich Ortgies and then by Deutsche Werke. Inexpensive, but of good quality, the pistol achieved considerable success at contemporary shooting competitions and, as an export product, was popular throughout the Americas.

And of course I'm sticking with the total responses being 93.

          JC Higgins

          * I'm not sure JC Higgins should count because most of their firearms were subcontracted out other bigger names but they were paying taxes and had employees and they won't be around ever again.

R.G. / Rohm Gesellschaft, often referred to as RG, is a German brand of firearms that I think was the importer of the very inexpensive guns that may have been the first to be called the name "Saturday night special".
This is the threads first foreign maker but they definitely count because even if they weren't employing lots of us workers they were definitely giving some money to good old Uncle Sam through import taxes or some other way.

How about Intratec. I remember their old Tec-9 pistols. They have been gone for about twenty years.

And so this post counts as an answer I will list a company from England...

The Sterling Engineering Company Ltd was an arms manufacturer based in Dagenham, famous for manufacturing the L2A3 (the 'Sterling submachine gun'), ArmaLite AR-18 and Sterling SAR-87 assault rifles and parts of Jaguar cars. The company went bankrupt in 1988
