BLM "Closed Route" markers?

During my recent target shooting outing at my favorite spot near Barstow, I noticed a lot of red "Closed Route" markers.

I've been shooting in this particular area since the 80's and this is the first time that I've seen these markers.

Because of these markers, I can't get to my favorite shooting spot. I spent a day looking for another spot in the general area and most of the side dirt roads from the main dirt road had these red "Closed Route" markers.

WTH is going on?????

All the roads in my case were in very good condition.

If its BLM lands near Barstow, in the past (circa 2017), they posted those signs due to endangered desert tortoise migration and after the migration period ended, they removed the signs.

Contact the local BLM office and ask them what's going on.

There has definitely been a trend in my lifetime towards limiting public access to public lands for extremely trivial reasons. It?s gotten to the point that even a remote threat of a weather event is good cause to close routes. In some cases, there are now seasonal closures regardless of weather or road conditions. Public agencies don?t want to be bothered with rescues or dealing with overcrowding when it snows and the city folk want to play. Government seems to make all decisions based on the lowest common denominator. I have lost count of the number of campsites that were closed temporarily only to never reopen.

They will do this at times on non official roads too.

Heck, just pull them up and dump the sign a few feet away in the brush. Then claim you never saw it.

Yep. California is the worst. NPS, NFS and BLM act like public land is their own private land.

Angeles Crest is now routinely closed if it snows. When they started that BS, 20 years ago we just drove past.

I might have seen some of those signs get uprooted in a windstorm. Yeah that’s it, a windstorm.

These gov agencies have discovered THERE AIN'T A DAMN THING YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT peasant.
They now have their own private playground.
