Anyone experience purchasing firearm where it needed to be shipped?

Hello y?all! Wanted some insight with people who have experienced buying from someone here where the firearm was shipped to an FFL. I am considering it as I got a good offer but scared to get scammed.

Person said they would shipped to my desired FFL and would included bill of sale and give me a copy. Does that sound correct? Do I wait till firearm reaches the FFL before I send the money?

Anyway any information/education is greatly appreciated!

    Where are you buying from?

Is the firearm on the roster?

Are you paying via zelle or PP F&F?

So the guys details weren?t much. Firearm is not on the roster. I?m in Southern California and he is in San Francisco. We didn?t get that far yet in terms of payment route.

You’ll pay him, he’ll take it to his FFL, and they will ship it to your FFL. You’ll probably need to go to your FFL and set it up ahead of time for them to receive it, and they’ll send a copy of their license to his FFL. Once your FFL receives the gun, they’ll give you a call, submit the DROS, and you’ll be able to pick it up in 10 days.

Edit: I just saw your second post stating that the gun is off roster. Don’t send him any money. He can’t ship it to you, so your only option is meeting up at an FFL to complete the sale in person. Just remember that you’ll have to go back again 10 days later to pick it up, so only pick an FFL that you’re willing to travel to twice.

If off roster no sale to californian. If legal use usps money order. Can never get zelle back. Get his info d/l pics of firearm and maybe have ffl inspect on his end
If in socal shootsocal is in fullerton and has reasonable transfer fees.

You cannot ship off roster firearms within the state. If you want to do a PPT with the seller for an off roster firearm you will have to meet at the same location in person and face to face where the FFL can verify both DL.

Thank you everyone! You saved me some money and possibly from being in trouble. He messaged me saying he would send it himself via UPS. Something felt off.

Glad to be apart of the community!

                You dodged an obvious scam.

Out him: report his username to a Calguns moderator, and post his name and/or email address if he gave it to you, in the long running scammer reporting thread.

If he sent you PMs, include the text of those - that helps to reveal a 'style' of communication that can be recognized in the future.

If you don't, he'll be able to continue the ruse and dupe somebody else.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

What kind of gun is it? A private person can ship a gun through UPS himself. Some FFLs have a policy of only accepting from an FFL but that is not a legal requirement.

Even after the 2022 changes ShipMyGun still sells UPS labels. We don?t have enough information in this thread to know if this was a scam or not, and doxxing someone based on assumptions is not advisable, especially in the 2A world.

Some handguns are roster exempt, all long guns are of course not subject to the roster, etc. There may be nothing wrong with the proposed deal at all.

Looks like you posted a WTB ad for a G19x (off roster) and he replied by email since there are no posts in your thread.

He is scamming you, or willing to break state/federal laws to sell you a handgun. But most likely the former, since WTB ads attract the scumbags like white on rice, in pretty much all of the gun forums that I belong.

You're better off just cruising the WTS ads looking for your specific gun in mind, rather than a WTB ad.

Post it in this thread of course, and add the info to this long-running thread outing scammers here:
