    S&W 57

    Sorry guys. Just got this today. Have not shot it yet. Only nit so far is takedown requires a pointy object. Luckily the 5.7x28 bullet is pointy. And there is no safety on my version.

    Hmm. A Smith 57 is properly a N Frame .41 Mag with adjustable sights. Did they recycle the name?

      Nope.

      The new handgun is the S&W M&P5.7

      S&W...
      57 = DA/SA N-framed revolver in .41Magnum.
      M&P5.7 = striker fired polymer framed semi-auto pistol in 5.7x28mm FNH.

        I too was hoping for some N-frame goodness

        Still that's a pretty cool pistol - I definitely need to give the 5.7 a try

          Slight technicality.

            Me too. Apparently the OP ran out of decimal points. Lucky for him, I have a few extras. So OP, here you go.................................

            And here is a actual M57 to make up for the typo:

              I seem to see relatively more 8" 57s than 27s or 29s and rarely, if ever, see a 4". I wonder if they mostly ended up as 58s.

                More than the classic Dirty Harry revolver? That surprises me. Though admittedly, that movie came out a few years ago...

                  I phrased that poorly. I meant that when I see a 57 in the store it's either a 6" or 8" like 90% of the time or something. With 27s,28s,29s I see more 4" and 6" with some 8" thrown in.

                    Same here. Thread title fail? Or clickbait by OP?

                    I had a 57 back in the 80's that I bought because I couldn't find a Model 29. Everyone was always saying ".41 Magnum is just as good as .44". Well, the people saying that didn't have one, because the ammo was hard to find, and expensive when you did. This is in the early 80's! The brass and bullets were hard to find too (couldn't mail order components back then), so when I eventually did find a Model 29, I sold that 57 without ever shooting it or buying a single cartridge.

                      I mean, .41 IS as good as .44 for most things unless you want to go really heavy. It is 100% a reloader's caliber I agree. Component availability is fine now, there's even properly headstamped .41 Special brass and a few different wadcutters.
