Painting a Jam-Nut

uhm.... is it Jam or Jamb? seen it spelled both ways.... whatever..



anyways, I marred up a jam nut the other day when trying to remove my fore arm....

What I'm thinking about is going after it with a bit of Krylon in FDE to match the rest of the rifle.


Two questions

1. What type of prep work do you think? I'm leaning towards sand/scuff with sandpaper/scotchbrite, then primer and paint...

2. What color Krylon matches Magpul FDE the best?


worst case scenario... a new nut from YHM costs me only 16 bucks.

Remove all traces of old paint. Fine sandpaper would work best so you don't leave deep scratches.

If you have to remove the nut again using a wrench you'll probably scratch the paint & have to repeat the above process.

OR

If the nut is black get some Birchwood-Casey Super Blue (if alumnium get the Alumnium Black).

2. What color Krylon matches Magpul FDE the best?

I have no idea. Take a Magpul part with you & try to match it up. The cap color on Krylon is usually (but not always) fairly accurate.

well, I'll try to assist you as best I can....

In my experience krylon only frustrated me more. You do a nice job on painting, only for the slightest thing to F' it up.

Post up some pics when you get a chance....you can probly handle it, worst case, send it my way.

I don't even wanna talk about how it got that way...

thats not bad man...rough up the rest of the surface and paint over it.

If a media blaster is not an option for you, use some fine grit sand paper....FINE!
