    Wrong serial number on DROS

    Hi All,

I transferred a handgun from a private party and did DROS at Solar Tactical in Castro valley in April 2021.

This month I filled to renew my CCW and add above mentioned firearm. Today I got call from Sheriff's office that the serial number mentioned on training certificate is not registered to me but still to original seller. The firearm which is registered to me has serial number: ABCD100 but correct one as on firearm is ABCD108.

The FFL is closed for 2 days and as far as I researched, it might be illegal for me to even poccess this handgun.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated on how to fix this.

The FFL who did the transfer to you can make one correction to the DROS and re-submit it to get it corrected in AFS.

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
    Most work performed while-you-wait.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a time limitation to file the amend to DROS?

I don't know if there is a time limit on making a correction.

          Found some info:

How can I correct or cancel a DROS submission?
Within 60 days of submission, a DROS may be corrected or cancelled via the DROS Entry System (DES). To correct or cancel a DROS after 60 days, a DROS Cancellation/Correction for Firearms form (BOF 958) must be submitted to DOJ as instructed on the form. The BOF 958 can be downloaded via DES from the "forms" link.

Solar tactical will need to fix this. They will probably require you to make a visit with the firearm. I make an effort to double check the serial on my paperwork. Ffl often ask you to double check also.

Yeah, figured that out. I usually double check but I guess it skipped mind after doing it over the years.

Hopefully all goes well when they open and file for amendment.

Can you pawn it to yourself?

Well crap, so your saying my firearm with serial #ABCD100 actually belongs to you, even though I've never met you?

Good luck and keep us in the loop on how this ends up.

I had the same problem when I sold my pistol via PTP. When I learned that I need to file a no longer in possession form to the BOF, thats when I found out that the serial on my old pistol was off on the DROS compared to my old files. I emailed BOF to advice them of the error, and they just said to send them a correction form along with the no longer in possession form, and they'll make the adjustments in their system.

Sorry for bumping this thread again. I just ran into a similar situation when the FFL has the incorrect SN on the DROS . Unfortunately he is a countertop FFL
That is no longer in business. Do you know if I can submit the BOF 958 by myself or it has to be done by an FFL? Thanks in advance for any inputs!
