    .300 Win Mag

i am thinking about buying a .300 Win Mag. and was wondering if any one had a price estimate on what one would cost, with a 3-9X40mm or 4-12X44mm scope, and a muzzle break on it. and i would like to get one at a store so it doesnt have to be shipped to a dealer. so what would be a good estimate on this gun at a cali store? this is my first gun so i want it to be a good one but not extremely expensive. i posted this on another site but they were no help at all. so i hope some one can help me, with out just giving me a link. because i dont want to shop online.

What are you going to hunt? Are you sure you need a 300 win mag. It's pretty snappy for a first rifle.

Remington Sendero = $900 to $1100. Also be advised that barrel life will be short - assume the south side of 1000 rounds.

Brand of rifle you're looking at?
Model you're looking for? Shooting off bench or hunting?
          Brand of base and rings?
          Brand of scope?

It can be anywhere of $800 (SPS/BDL/Savage) with nikon/Leupold VX-1 and leupold base/rings all the way up into the thousands with the Custom route.

I have a Savage 116 in .300 Win Mag. I love it, and they retail for only $600 or so.

Accurate as hell, and it has a muzzle brake built in that can be turned on/off with a simple twist. Get a basix trigger to go with and you can have a prety accurate gun for only a small investment.

Really, if you are looking into buying local, then shop around locally. Figure 600+ for the gun, scopes range from crappy $100 jobs to $2500+ for top-o-the-line stuff. Whats "budget" to one is not the same to another. Whats your budget? Where you located? Whats your intended use for said rifle?

I have a sig SHR970 bought it in 2000 and has been a great gun.I am using a weaver scope that has been pretty good esp for the price and holds out to recoil well too.I only paid about 450 for the gun back then.

You will need a decent scope cause the recoil can be hard on a cheap scope.Ammo can be expensive but for me i reload so it aint as bad.I bought some black hills match when i bought my gun and it used norma brass so i still have about 35-40 left that i use for reloading.

Budget as much for the glass as for the rifle. No sense having an accurate rifle with a crappy sighting system. .300 Win Mag recoils a bit, but it is hardly "stout". Any particular reason why you want a .300 Win Mag, though?

Tikka and Savage make excellent, accurate rifles in the $600 range. You might also check "used" as well.

Uhm, less than a 1000 round barrel life?

I'd love to see some sources for this.

I'm a proud owner of a 700 in 300 win mag. It is truly accurate as hell and a total beast with it's heavy bull barrel.

If this is your first rifle, if you are not going to use it for hunting, and if you're simply using it to target shoot, get another caliber.

300 win mag ammo is incredibly expensive for good quality stuff, so unless you're reloading yourself (a must, in my opinion), you'll be better off with something else.

You can't go wrong with .308. The recoil is less, generally speaking, though you won't be able to lob as heavy of a round downrange as a 300.
