Only aware of no night hunting restrictions, but not aware of target shooting restrictions at night. Obviously verify your backstop and visibility.

Same- though I dont know specifically about BLM, the only restriction I'm aware of is hunting.

My range is open 24 hours a day for full members.

I've been there shooting at 3 AM.

All I can tell you is that it can be fun. We had a night shoot in basic training and it involved a lot of tracer rounds.

I remember at Camp Bullis Texas while going through combat training we had one exercise called instinctive night fire. I shot sixty rounds from my M16 down range that was set up with silhouette targets at various distances.

No tracers regular ammo. Out of that sixty I hit 4 out of ten targets at various ranges. Not sure if that was good or bad but pitch black no moon so you just hopefully hit something. It was fun though.

Night shooting and hunting is legal in certain areas of the state and on BLM land. What part of California are you located in? I’m very familiar with San Bernardino county. They have a shooting map that shows you where you can shoot and/or hunt, with day/night indicators. Los Angeles county has or “had” a similar map for the same activities, also found in the office of “Los Angeles County commission on fish & game.” Located in the Hall of Administration building in downtown LA. I don’t know if they have their map available online

For example and this is a rough picture I’m painting for you here….. basically draw an imaginary line East to west through downtown Barstow. North of the 40 freeway and east of Barstow is basically anything goes. Night target shooting, hunting etc…. West of Barstow and it’s anything north of highway 58. Again, this is only a generalization. You need to reference the shooting map provided by San Bernardino county commission on fish and game.

Here is the map online. It’s not super clear, but after careful study of it with regards to major highways and one can figure out where it’s legal. The bottom of the map has a color coded legend. If you can get an actual paper rendition of the map, it might be easier to read. You can find it on the San Bernardino county parks website.

If you’re elsewhere in the state and my post didn’t help you for the location you’d like to night shoot, you’ll have to dig in the specific county you want to partake in target shooting.

                Good luck.

You can also just look up the BLM area you are looking to use, and then see what restrictions there are. The one BLM area I use has a no night hunting restriction, but seems to be fine otherwise.
