I have no experience with the Reference rifles, only standard Defender MRP, and Mars-L MRP, basically the same rifle just slightly different configurations. They've been nothing short of excellent. Highly regarded in my book. My buddy just bought the NZ-16, pretty sweet set up for sure. I see one currently available for $2799. Personally I'd go NZ over Estonian as DI over piston. With that said I'd still piece together a LMT using a MARS-L, MRP upper/barrel of choice. I believe the only thing making the reference rifles unique is their barrels. NZ sporting a special profile and bayonet lug, Estonia featuring a 14.3" P/W with unique muzzle device and bayonet lug piston block. Good luck shopping out there and Merry Christmas.

      NZ-16 $2799

      And here's a smoking deal on a MARS-L $1799 https://www.titandefense.com/cqbmlk16-mars.html

Will Titan defense ship to California though by just separating the upper and lower?

I have the Estonian Reference (and another pieced together MARS-L). Solid, reliable piston gun I’d buy again. Two items I wished it has are the enhanced BCG/bolt and a non p&w flash hider. The latter is probably a non issue for many here, but I standardize all my rifles to a different QD attachment system (KeyMo).

I just got a mlok lmt and the upper is so nice.
It just really makes the rifle very balanced and feel lighter than it really is.
After having mlok idk if id want to ever mess with a quad rail again.

Just my $.02 but I went with piston system mars-l so I could feel like I was getting something different vs a (much cheaper) home brew DI. It’s been very reliable (I always bring it when attending a carbine class)

I have the Estonian, still have to get it out to range, but I was jonesing for a 14.5" LMT and this hit the spot. Love the length, they're heavy for their size but the feel and tightness of everything is absolutely gorgeous. Feels twice as heavy as my DDM4A1.
