    Safe full of replica firearms

The idea is to have a safe and have it filled with replica guns should the unfortunate event of someone breaking in occurs.

The goal is for the criminals to focus on the replica safe, which would be somewhere where it is in plain sight yet it is completely not obvious that it is a decoy.

Is it a stupid idea? I think it's cheap insurance IMO. Plus, I like replica guns as well.

Maybe it is not legal to deceive criminals in CA in your home. Thoughts?

Where would your actual guns be? I know a dude who does this, In a different sense. He has a safe with like 2 ten ounce bars of silver in it but has a ton of silver and gold buried all over his property. His concept is that someone will find the safe and work to make off with it and not spend time looking for all the other stuff - which is all buried so I’m not sure how it’s be found anyway.

There is a basic law enforcement concept that if someone breaks into your home and gets away with stuff they’re five times more likely to come back and look for more. So I won’t say your idea is poor but so long as the person makes it in and out they may be enticed to come back and dig deeper.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

When a prior home was burglarized, the police told us not to replace the stolen items for at least a month,
as they would likely come back and take the replacements.

      We took their advice.

They did return and this time, took nothing...

        Why burglars come back?

Because it is common for the victims to replace their stolen items before they implement any security fixes that allowed the burglary to occur in the first place.
^Upgrading locks and hardening entry points, tends to happen after stolen items are replaced.

            Multiple safe hidden from view.

Maybe one obvious safe for "bait" filled with ammo.

You know, my friends wife has Alzheimer’s and he put an AirTag into her Fanny pack. They work pretty damn good and they’re cheap, I’ve considered buying them to put into safes etc

How about floating the decoy 20kv above ground potential?

Coat the decoy with conductive contact cement, for good measure.

Oh that would definitely be a good idea as well. But I was thinking about if they were to pry it open.

For a time I only kept ammunition in my safe. My firearms were otherwise hidden. I figured if someone got into the house they'd get excited about the heavy safe and focus on it. I'd rather lose ammo that can be replaced then firearms that are heirlooms to me. It should be noted that I am single with no children and so I don't follow the same precautions those with children should.

                            lots of these

The old "tile" actually fit nicely into a 1911 magazine well. Freaked out when my brother borrowed it when I was traveling some time ago.
