My dream gun is an stg57... I know its banned by name here in California however I was wondering if I buy a parts kit, maybe I can find a ff07 to manufacture me a receiver and have him assemble the kit. Would this work??? And is there someone who can put it together provided I buy the parts kit? Thanks same question with a sig 550...

Only certain FALs are on the banned list. They come up for sale complete now and again. I have one I bought already built from a Steyr kit with an Imbel receiver. Go on the FAL files and educate yourself on them. When I was looking to build one a couple years ago there were kits available. I talked to Randall at AR barrels and he could do most of the work IIRC. That was my backup plan.
You can get receivers from DSA. -
He is talking about the Stg57 which is essentially a SiG 510 but the Stg57 is chambered in 7.5x55mm and uses a delayed roller blow back locking bolt system similar to the HK G3/HK91. You need to move to a free state.Last edited by OCEquestrian; 11-01-2022, 7:17 AM."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." ----Sen. Barry Goldwater

The specific receiver named is the banned firearm.Comment

The main issue I see is that the Sign 550 and the PE 57 are specifically banned in the legislation.
One option you could look into is whether someone makes a "clone" Sig 550 receiver. I haven't seen one.
An example of how that works is that the HK-91 is banned by name in the legislation but the PRT-91 is not. Since the PTR-91 is not banned by name, it is allowed and it is the same receiver and same weapon. Think about all the AK clones and AR clones that you can buy right now.
I know its not exactly the same but have you considered the Sig 556? It's not exactly the same but there is some similarity.
I also wanted to say the comment about going to a free state is very helpful. I found a Sig 550 for sale on Gunbroker for $21K. A Sig 550 receiver by itself is about $4K.Comment

AFAIK...
surplus STG57 parts kits are around $1500.
No one makes a semi-auto only receiver for it and no one makes Fed 922r compliance parts for it.
In 2018, someone tried to make a STG57 receiver for semi-auto parts kit build, but the BATFE determined that the receiver was a Title 2 MG since it could accept all of the full auto parts.
No one has attempted to make a receiver for it since then.
Need to obtain and copy the PE-57/AMT receiver in order for BATFE to not declare it a Title 2 MG.
The PE-57/AMT were the factory semi-auto only STG57 that was BATFE approved for importation/sale to the civilian market.
Depending on condition and accessories, the SIG PE-57 and SIG AMT currently sell on auctions sites in the $21,000-$26,000 price range.Last edited by Quiet; 11-01-2022, 8:16 PM.sigpic

I've never seen an stg57 parts set for sale. Maybe you're talking about importing one now? If it was imported before the ban, 922r prob doesn't apply. Moot, because you won't find a receiver or parts set. You prob couldn't find ammo either, even if you managed to get it built.
SIG 551's are much more common, but I don't remember ever seeing a parts set for those either. Who would cut up a 551 anyway? Usually parts sets come from LE guns or surplus military guns.Comment
