Just fired a 10MM for the first time yesterday

I have no idea what the big deal is, recoil was pleasant.

People have been telling me that a 10MM's recoil was bad, I guess they were whimps.

Most commercial 10mm is loaded light. There are only a couple companies that sell full strength such as Underwood and Buffalo Bore. I personally have my G20 loaded with SIG 10mm which is only a little stronger than most other commercial ammo.

Try some underwood loads or equivalent. Most 10mm factory loads are on the weak side

I took a friend to shoot his Sprinfield XDM 10mm for first shoot for both of us. I had my XD 40S &W to compare and brought my chrono. His factory 180g ammo went about 200fps faster than my similar 40s. We both concluded the 10mm was not the hand cannon of lore.
Compared to full load 357 or 44 the 10mm was noticeably lower recoil.

10MM is really a hoot to shoot. Normal factory loads are mild. (Kevin) Underwood
does it right and for me the Best MOST FUN 10MM load was 135GR moving at 1600FPS.
I had one of my reloading presses dedicated to 10MM (Dillon 550C with case feeder) and reloaded more than 5,000 rounds. Everyone should have a Glock 20SF.

I've shot some of the boutique 10mm loadings. Recoil is harder than factory ball but still isn't bad at all.

10mm isn't a fun caliber, but nowhere near the wrsit breaking recoil you hear about. I'd equate it to a mild snap of the wrist at best, even with original 10mm loadings from Norma or Sig.

Ooh! I have some of that left. I bought it when my friend bought a Delta Elite. The natural recoil of a 1911, which is a lot more than a Glock, made that gun a handful. The original ammo, which was only available from Norma iirc, was too much for the Delta Elite, and they started breaking en masse. Since that was the only 10mm gun on the market(Bren Ten was long dead), Norma/SAAMI (I don't know which) decided to dial back on the power to the mediocre power you get today.

My plinker loads are stronger than regular off the shelf stuff. Now my full power loads easy to tell the difference in them.

Like said most is not loaded close to full potential maybe a 40 plus p. Get some underwood if you want more.

                          You shot a .40.

And if you're not recoil sensitive, you won't even be able to tell it apart from a 9mm in a lighter gun. Recoil of the same round varies quite a bit in different guns and loads themselves can vary quite a bit within single caliber.

A hot 10mm feels more like a revolver round, where the concussion is a bit stronger and the "punch" in the hand is a bit stouter, but it's not at the point where you have to modify your technique or let the gun push your arms up the way you would handle super-magnums in a revolver. It's still a service round.

I'm starting to be a centimeter convert myself. Eyeing a G29sf now to go along with the G20sf.

Some Factory 10mm can be loaded very close to 40S&W.

I.E: Armscor 180gr 40S&W is advertised at 953 FPS, their 10mm 180gr load is advertised at 1008 FPS. That difference can be between one round and the next sometimes. Full power 180gr 10mm should be around 1200 FPS.
