Candidly, some shows shouldn't be called gun shows. Perhaps it is unique to California , but I went to the Del Mar, California show yesterday and regretted it. I probably won't go back. Parking was $9. Entry was $12. Less that 10% of the tables were actually firearms. The firearms that were there are overpriced. It seemd like hald the tables were trying to gouge on ammo. Maybe I'm spoiled by the shows in Arizona and Nevada, but the Southern California shows just don't cut it.

The Reno show was the same way this year, the ammo was outrageous!

I agree with rjk that the shows in Vegas and Phoenix are better. I always end up regretting spending my time and money when I go to the local shows.

DEL MAR show is pretty good.....record crowd for July....

Sales are pretty good for the middle of summer....

Ammo while getting better is not great.....

Could use a few more uppers.....lower parts kits and butts are looking good for availability.....

Even the show in El Paso has a pretty decent crowd and record attendence for July....

I went today, and it's pretty surprising that I'd gone (back to front) almost a third of the way through before I actually started to see actual guns for sale! I don't think it's too much to ask to actually, you know, have gun dealers at a gun show! I did manage to see rows of T-shirts, jewelry, crystal plates, glasses, chinaware, and the usual assortment of Betty Boop/I Love Lucy vendors. I would've loved to see more rifles, pistols, shotguns, ammunition (although that's getting better), reloading equipment (bullets? Anyone got bullets?), etc. After spending the $20 to get in with my $1 off coupon, I'm wondering for what I bought in addition to time and gas was worth what I might have saved? The sad conclusion is that it's at the break-even or losing point. Does this mean that I won't go to gun shows? Not hardly. It does mean that I'll be more selective about the shows I go to. It means that I'll probably spend more at Midway and Widener's, as well as local merchants. And it means I'll probably get more stuff on the internet (hey, that's how we're all here, right? ) than before. Perhaps the people who run gun shows should start noticing this now before their customers notice it for them. Proactive problem solving is much easier than reactive.

The problem here is that the promoters of such shows see a 100% increase in attendance and think they have the right combo. You and I both can do without the Christmas ornaments and the crystal dinner ware but all they care about is selling a table. Only reason I would buy any of these items (if I had money to blow) would be to take them to the range and shoot the hell out of them.

Definitely the hugest crowd I've ever seen - the buying lunacy is not over yet. 1/2 hour line just to get in! I went with a specific target in mind - find some gunpowder. The line out front for the powder and primers was huge! Went inside to look for a Savage rifle and walked into a swap meet - not a Savage to be found. I guess it would of been fine if I was looking for AR stuff or antiques, but guns were far and few between at this gun show.

Visited the Calguns booth and bought a shirt. Went back outside and stood in a non-moving line for gunpowder I don't really need (they didn't have the H4895 I really needed). After 15 minutes of standing in one spot I called it quits and went to the beach. Sorry Crossroads - you'll never see me again, I'll just wait for Grafs to get powder back in stock.
