    Gun transportation

Hi everyone, just have a question for you guys. Is it legal to take my handgun with me when I drive to Texas from here in Los Angeles
unloaded and in the lock case and in the trunk of my car with 5 8 round magazine with ammo? Thank you very much.

Yes, it is perfectly legal. In the next 10 days, I will be moving a bunch of handguns and rifles to TX. You can use it at the range while you're there

The safest way is to research each of the states you'll be passing through, and check applicable laws for each.

Quite a few people have had problems traveling into or through places such as New York State (and City) which have stricter laws than surrounding areas.

Locked case while in trunk is not a requirement. Unloaded, in a duffel/tool bag, and in trunk is good (bag optional).

But correct. OP, do you have an OOS permits? You can legally CC in AZ without a permit and OC in vehicle in NM (iirc)

Yes, you can also keep it in the front with you as long as you can secure it to your car chassis in case of break ins. Personally, I put my gun inside a small lockable bag, then I put that inside a backpack which I take with me rather than leave in the car. I Never had any issue where a cop stopped me and asked what's in the bag.

                I have a question...

I will be driving from the Bay Area to TX. So, my guns will be in a safe and locked while I am in CA state line.

Can I have a loaded gun underneath of my seat while I am in AZ or NM? (I don't have a CCW permit in those states) the reason I ask because I might have some eyes shut while in those states?

Arizona is constitutional carry, you can do most everything including open carry. You still need a permit to go inside certain buildings, but I never bothered with that, and no one has ever bothered me about it.

For sure I will be passing through AZ and NM, I'm just bringing it with me just in case coz it's a long drive and I will be driving with my family to visit my cousin in Midland Texas. So I'm good right? Thank you.

                          Yes, in AZ.

AZ laws requires you to disclose if you are in possession of a deadly weapon when asked by a LEO. [ARS 13-3102 A.1.(b)]

                          A. A person commits misconduct involving weapons by knowingly:
                          1. Carrying a deadly weapon except a pocket knife concealed on his person or within his immediate control in or on a means of transportation:
                          (a) In the furtherance of a serious offense as defined in section 13-706, a violent crime as defined in section 13-901.03 or any other felony offense; or
                          (b) When contacted by a law enforcement officer and failing to accurately answer the officer if the officer asks whether the person is carrying a concealed deadly weapon; or
                          2. Carrying a deadly weapon except a pocket knife concealed on his person or concealed within his immediate control in or on a means of transportation if the person is under twenty-one years of age; or

Maybe Quiet can correct me if I'm wrong:

Locals say that YES you must disclose, but unless the officer has some type of probable cause he/she can't ask to see it, ask questions about make/model etc.

I was pulled over by a local PD (brothers boat trailer bent license plate) and I was surprised he asked me if I had any weapons.

I said yes and, he asked where, I said in my console, he didn't ask any other questions.

Not that it mattered, but I have Ca and AZ CCW.
