I grew up about 30 miles from Solvang and I used to Cowboy on the Alisal Cattle Ranch just south of town. If you take the Alisal Road south out of town you go by the golf course and dude ranch and then hit the cattle ranch where I worked. Keep going about 4-5 miles out of town and you will see Nojoqui Falls Park on the left. There is a a waterfall (most years) about 1/4 mile hike from the parking lot. Continue on the road past the park and it connects to US 101 so you can go that way back to Santa Barbara and LA.

Next door in Buellton there's Industrial Eats for a great place to grab lunch or an early dinner.

I grew up in Buellton, AJs was great back then. I went there two weeks ago and it was the worst experience I've ever had. Food was okay, service was bad. Hitching post is 10x better but I've been going to the one in casmalia these days. Ever since that movie sideways came out HP I'm Buellton has been difficult to get in. Local tip on HP, get gift card from Costco $100GC for $75 or $80.

Someone here said they were 45 minutes north, I bet they like Jackos.

Thanks for getting me the right name. I will be heading up for the car show in early November and was planning to stop in for breakfast.

I grew up in Santa Maria. In 1970-71 we'd go up to Jockos and get the steak sandwich in the afternoon before our Friday night foitball games. It was affordable for high schoolers and a pretty good deal.

If we're passing there we'll detour for a box full of pastries and a couple loaves of bread.

Not sure of the name of the restaurant but my Dad when him and my Mom went there he would always order "Turkey Fries".....He would get a laugh when we asked him what they were.

Apparently there is a market for Tom turkey testicles. He loved them.

Phil makes the difference in the food from the Casmalia location to the Buellton location. Phil has been the cook there through three owners. Cool dude. Me and the old boss spent a lot of time at his house there in Casmalia drying out from quarterly partying.
