Is this Mosin bolt head beyond saving?

Install a new extractor and carry on. https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/M...S-201p8234.htm OOS and they are hard to find but...
Wonky ammo in a 75+ yo rifle. Sheet can happen.
Try another mil surp ammo preferably Rus made. Rus light ball. Or buy new ball and re-test. -
Have you ever checked the headspace?
Replacing the extractor should be fine as long as headspace is ok. Changing out that bolt head will change the headspace (for good or for bad).sigpic "On bended knee is no way to be free." - Eddie Vedder, "Guaranteed"

Mosin bolt heads are different lengths. That is the one part that can change headspace.sigpic "On bended knee is no way to be free." - Eddie Vedder, "Guaranteed"

I'll pass on some observations about my Mosin rifles. I have swapped complete bolts from one rifle to another and fired them with no ill effects. These rifles all came from a retailer/distributor. None of these rifles were touched/modded or deeked with. Rus light ball surplus ammo was used.
My theory is that these rifle's parts allowed field expedient repairs and swaps to keep them firing as well as easy mass manufacturing/assembly at the factory.
Not saying you should or shouldn't swap bolts, I'm just dropping some data points for consideration.Comment
