Hi I found a live round of 40mm mk1 shell. Is it worth anything?

It looks inert. Probably worth $100 at least, maybe even more than $200 considering it is complete, and in good condition, and unaltered

Put it in a vise and try hitting the primer with a hammer and nail.

        First, I think that’s inert.
Second, if not inert, the correct thing to do is call you local LEA to turn it over.
Third, despite putting in a vise and hammering being the obvious choice if it was live, it may be a tiny bit safer to lay shell on its side and shoot primer with .30-06 cartridge. Good luck.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I like your “safety first” tactic…seems legit.

I am more blown away by the OP join date in 2017 and this is the first post….he is a professional sleeper.

While I’m not an expert, it looks like an expended round that has had the primer struck and projectile replaced. A souvenir perhaps.

How much did the original rounds weigh? Does your weigh the same? If so, I might have a bit of concern.

              YMMV

Drill a couple holes in it, string a chain through them and wear it as a necklace. Perfect for triggering people.

I kinda remember a similar story in the 80's around Hunter Liggett - some kid took his dad's souvenir and banged it on a rock - got to be buried by his parents.

There is a 40mm cannon at the Legion you could test it.

See how the primer has been struck plus 2 additional holes in the primer means it’s probably inert. If it’s not you got some legal issues.

As others have said, that’s probably something you need to do something about. Probably inert (I had something like that when I was a kid but it was stamped dummy on it) but if it’s live and if the projectile is full of Comp B or RDX… I’d be cool about how you make that call if you decide to do your whole street doesn’t get evacuated.
