    Tru oil thinning

Hey guys, what are you using to thin Tru Oil?

I need something other then Mineral Spirit. I've got Acetone and Kerosene.

    Thanks
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

    Paint thinner?

I used tru oil on several stocks and never needed to thin it. A little goes a long way and you rub it in with your fingers until your fingers get too hot to carry on. Then repeat 24 hrs later, and as may times as it takes fill the grain in the wood.

Hand rubbed oil finish is the most ultimate wood stock finish imo!

Thanks brother, I've been using it for years too, I just wanted to thin it out a little and see if it would penetrate a little more. I've read that mineral spirits work great but I can't buy that where I live. Its not on the roster and banned by name.

This works great if you can get some.
Fast-drying solvent to thin paints, varnishes and enamels where aliphatic hydrocarbons are of sufficient strength.

I always make it a point to stock up on things when I go out of state. Rust remover, -27 (min) windshield wiper fluid, and mineral spirit usually tops my list.

I have never tried to thin down Tru Oil. I just keep layering.

                Thanks guys....
I couldn't find anything about using the stuff that I had so I just went full strength. It makes sense that it would penetrate better if it was thinned. Then after a few coats you use full strength..

I'll try it on my next project.

Be patient and wait for it to dry between coats. Results are just beautiful.

Dem-Bart Checkering Oil is the stuff if you want a thinner stock finish.

Mineral Sprits banned? They sell it at Home Depot, CARB approved formula.

Maybe I should say it this way:

"The mineral spirits that 'actually work' are banned."

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
