So I was trying to browse the Midway USA site and found a banner stating Californians under 18 cannot access the site, anyone seen this and is this part of Dictator Newsomes sheem to rid Californians of their 2A rights?

    Just passing this along...

What's the issue here? No one under 18 can buy a firearm anyways?

My guess is they will suppress anything that looks like an advertisement if you select 'yes'. Try it in an incognito browser and let us know.

EDIT - IT IS A NO-GO IF YOU SAY YOU ARE UNDER 18, SEE MY FOLLOW UP POST A COUPLE DOWN BELOW

NRA American Rifleman is also asking visitors to affirm their age when accessing the website. This is all related to the new CA law. We can expect to see more of it.

Notice that your own screenshot says SOME products and images.

In other words, if you answer "Yes" to the question, which is whether you are over 18, you're going to get full access. If you answer "No," then there are likely some images you aren't going to be allowed to access.

Thus, as has been stated, it's a legal CYA and people aren't being excluded from the entire site, even if they honestly answer that they are not over 18. Insofar as buying a firearm and lying that you are over 18, the reality is that in California, Midway has to send the firearm to an FFL where someone under 18 would have to get by them, then they'd have to get by California's background check, etc.

Thus, as has been asked... Where is the real problem in that such is done, for precisely the same reasons, on other sites with regard to content deemed unsuitable or illegal for those who are underage?

OP should change the thread title, this is a good discussion to have but it goes far beyond MidwayUSA

If I use a VPN and change my IP location to something outside CA, I can access the midway site without them asking the age

Yes. That does, potentially, change things a bit given, as has been noted, Midway does sell things which can be purchased by the under 18 shopper. However, if you consult the site's Terms of Service page, which was last updated 11/1/2018, you find...

Given that the payment options for the site also require one to be 18, I'm still not sure I'm seeing a real problem or, at least, a problem in the sense of someone not being able to access the site who should be allowed to for the purposes of purchases.

I wonder if CA is going to force Google to start suppressing images of guns and parts in search results as if they were porn now...

I believe it's due to the law about advertising guns and what not to children. It opens them up for a lawsuit if they don't do it. It's not their fault it's California's

That age warning is as useful as the age warning on porn websites. Has anyone been dumb enough to click under 18 for those even when they were?

Can you blame Midway for trying to protect its financial interests from wacos?

Having moved out of CA - this was my first reminder that I haven't seen a Prop 65 sticker since evacuating.
