Ever heard of UPS Basic delivery?

So i ordered some things from Midway USA last week, and it shows on my account that it was shipped UPS Basic. I never heard of their Basic shipping option, anyone know what it is or the means of shipping? Is it slower than Ground? Thanks.

They added two new delivery options a couple weeks ago:

UPS Basic - Dependable, economical ground service with final delivery made by UPS or USPS. Delivery is typically one day longer than UPS Ground with full tracking capability to final delivery. UPS Basic is available to residential addresses in the lower 48 States.

US Postal Service Priority Flat Rate - An express shipping option for one low rate per box size—anywhere in the United States. There's virtually no weighing or calculating rates – if it fits in the box, it ships and reaches the destination in 2-3 days.

I think that was more than a few weeks ago. I have seen UPS ship through USPS since last year on some items I have ordered online. It can be faster than ground sometimes. USPS has always been cheaper...UPS is saving some money.

Is that what it is? I thought Basic delivery was when the UPS driver stops the truck in the street and, without getting out of the truck, throws the package as hard as he can towards your front door, then leaves before you can come out to find the contents smashed on your doorstep. You can't get more basic than that.

That depends on the neighborhood you live in.

I thought UPS Basic meant that basically it might get to you, but don't count on it.

I ordered from Midway the day they started using Basic. Biggest difference is that UPS will attempt 1 delivery before they hold it at the customer center. Now in my case I missed the 1st attempt and then called to ask them to hold it and the guy told me to would automatically be held because it was Basic. When I went to go get it the next day the guy at the counter told me it was on the truck for delivery but their online tracking did not show it was on the truck, rather their internal system showed it was. I guess Basic is new even to them.

USPS also just added an overseas "Flat Rate Priority Box" and a "Flat Rate Priority Envelope" so if you mail overseas, check it out. Around $14 instead of $26 for under 1 pound.

I was wondering why I received a package from USPS with a UPS label on it. Thought the sender just used an old USPS box. You learn something new everyday.
