Why are Colt Pythons so desirable?

I see them fetching crazy prices. Why? What is special about it that current revolvers can't match?

I'm genuinely curious.

You can't buy a lot of stuff that's no longer produced, but that doesn't necessarily make it good.

I suppose my question is, if it is perceived to be a good revolver, what makes it good compared to newer offerings?

Fit, finish, balance, ergonomics, and mechanical craftsmanship are all parts of the equation. Market rarity is another. But to handle and "exercise" a Python, is to know it.

It's that beautiful royal blue. Nickel Pythons don't do a thing for me.

The double-action trigger pull on a Python is pretty remarkable. I'm mainly a S&W addict, but the Pythons are a special thing indeed.

Combine that with the fact that they are freaking gorgeous, and simply not made anymore, and you've got a very desirable piece.

I can tell you've never handled or fired one...

They are simply amazing in every sense of the word. The fit and finish is second to none. You really have to handle one and shoot one to understand exactly why so many people are willing to pay so much for them. Basically, I've never seen any other revolver that comes close to a Python. I'm just glad I own one because they're freakin' expensive!

Hand fit often means that the parts are generally sadly out of spec

Ive got one...the only revolver I have left. Very nice and it has a different feel then others...Would I pay the prices they are asking? Not in this lifetime...Would I sell it for the prices they are going for? Your damn skippy!
