    Camp Rock Rd

Has anyone shot here recently? I've only ever shot at a range but would like to check out some federal land to shoot on. The idea of being around a bunch of other people at Hodge doesn't appeal to me so I'm looking for some better areas around Barstow without the crowd. Every map I've checked seems to conclude that the area just south of Dagget is good to go, but I'd like to know if anyone has been there and what they're expereince has been. Also with being new to shooting on open land, what's the procedure with doing this? Just pull off the road and find a good backstop and have it? Any etiquette or further laws I need to be aware of?

I don't know that area specifically. I can tell you to follow the 4 rules, stay armed with a long gun and holstered hand gun when you go at up targets, and don't leave anything out that you don't mind someone stealing if you have to leave your lane to set up targets.

I've shot in palm desert area, I would assume it's the same there. Know your back stop and keep an eye out that your not shooting across a dirt bike/ hiking trail. We usually put cones out to let other idiots know we're out there. I never go out alone, your responsible for yourself. And it goes without saying, leave it cleaner then when you found it.

I think I shot out there once.
We drove a bunch of miles down a dirt road until we came into valley which had a natural backstop to the east to setup steel and found a little hill to shoot from.

        I think it’s shotgun only.

Yes you can fire out there. You'll most of the time not see another person so if you don't like crowded areas to fire at this is the place. You can fire whatever type of weapon you want.

Yes find a hill or berm to shoot into - plenty of them. Like anyplace make sure you don't shoot over a road for obvious reasons.

CRR is more or less the western border of Johnson OVH. Shotgun only.

The Johnson Valley riding area is to the east of Camp Rock road. It is hunting only with shotguns only. The other side is not and it should be good to go on BLM land.
