Upper alone is legal as is.

Just make sure the config overall is legal when you snap it to a lower

DD MK18 uppers are threaded from the factory. its just a run of the mill flash suppressor.

So the threaded barrel isn’t a problem until I snap it to a lower?
In order to be CA legal as a semi-auto pistol, it must operate using a fixed 10 or less round magazine. [PC 30515(a)(4),(5)]

Since it is a semi-auto pistol with a fixed 10 or less round magazine it can legally have a threaded barrel.

The unattached short barrel upper by itself is CA legal.

The unattached short barrel upper and the ownership/possession of a pistol AR lower receiver is CA legal.

The unattached short barrel upper and only the ownership/possession of a rifle AR lower receiver is CA illegal due to the possessor being in possession of an illegal SBR. [PC 17170(e)]

              Penal Code 17170
As used in this part, “short-barreled rifle” means any of the following:
              (a) A rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length.
              (b) A rifle with an overall length of less than 26 inches.
              (c) Any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if that weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length.
              (d) Any device that may be readily restored to fire a fixed cartridge which, when so restored, is a device defined in subdivisions (a) to (c), inclusive.
              (e) Any part, or combination of parts, designed and intended to convert a device into a device defined in subdivisions (a) to (c), inclusive, or any combination of parts from which a device defined in subdivisions (a) to (c), inclusive, may be readily assembled if those parts are in the possession or under the control of the same person.

Lame that ca has a constructive possession law but none for federal.

So owning a threaded barrel with those dual male thread adapter and an oil filter is potentially illegal too?

Not even then. Pistols are "assault weapons" if they have a detachable mag outside the grip. An AR pistol without a fixed mag is already an "assault weapon", so the threaded barrel is not relevant. If you have a fixed mag, then it can't be an "assault weapon", and again, the threaded barrel is not relevant.

You need to be careful about the California constructive possession law affecting SBRs.

Could you legally buy the SBR/Pistol upper if you were in possession of a unmodified CA7 lower?

Never say ever. "For now" seems more appropriate in light of recent developments at Scotus. Mag capacity limit likely to fall and a good chance for AW to fall as well. Roster perhaps not far behind. Then it will be AR pistols w/drum mags for everybody.
