    CHFC Fish Fry

Please see attached flyer. The Compton Hunting and Fishing Club, established in 1946,is holding its 75th annual Fish Fry on Saturday, July 16. We usually serve over 1000 meals that day. Children's games, raffles and other fun activities will be available. Live music will also be provided.

We have 2 acres of gated park-like grounds to enjoy with lots of huge trees to provide shade. Several CalGuns folks have been there and some even ended up joining the club, We have an underground range on the grounds as well as owning a couple hundred acres in Ventura county that provides camping, shooting and hunting to our membership.

The event is getting closer - plan a fun family day with great food, music, kid games and raffles.

Every year something comes up.. dangget this year I’m going. Is there parking room if I have my skiff on the trailer? Thinking of hitting the Calicos in the morning and stopping on the way home.

I look forward to seeing you! I am sure we can find a place to park your rig. We have access to the Edison right of way just north of our grounds for parking.

My name is Rick and I will be in the kitchen, breading fish.

I’ve been wanting to attend for years. Always had work, this year vacation, maybe one day when I’m retired and kids are gone.

Where else can you get handbreaded fish, fries, a roll and homemade cole slaw and tartar sauce for 9 bucks? Plus raffles, games, beer and soft drinks?

What would you like to know? We were founded by a small group of businessmen and tradesmen in 1946. We moved to our current location in 1952 after the initial location was taken/purchased by LA County Flood Control. We have 2 or 3 acres of fenced and gated grounds, including a rental yard for members' storage of their RVs and trailers. The underground range was started in 1953 and completed in 1957 - the work done almost completely by the membership. Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, with a meal served at 6 PM and the meeting at 7 PM. It is not just a matter of paying a fee and joining - prospective members are expected to show a commitment to support the club in work parties, support for activities, etc.
We have a Youth Enhancement Program (YEP) that provides charter fishing trips (one was just done today at the 22nd St Landing) and provided an annual youth pheasant hunt that may not be possible any longer with the new law Newsome just signed. We were going to have a "Youth Expo" on July 23 with Ca DFW, Safari Club Int, and other groups attending. The Safari Club trailer with many taxidermy mounts of American and African game is usually a hit. That event will probably be cancelled.
We hold shooting competitions in our range for handguns, ARA rimfire, benchrest centerfire and rimfire, etc. (The range is closed and locked during public events like the Fish Fry.) We shoot trap and skeet once a month at the range off the 60 freeway. We have a lot of functions and activities - Las Vegas nights, Bull Sessions, Christmas Party, Easter Egg Hunt and so on.

Damn! I came down with COVID and won't be there. The first one I have missed in 18 years. After avoiding the bug all this time, it finally got me.

It is such a fun event!
