No Ammo Prices without Running My License

So last night I stopped by Bass Pro for ammo. No line, no crowd and just one guy behind me in the ammo section. Most ammo doesn't have prices, so you have to ask. Every time I've gone to buy ammo at BP they first show me what they have, I tell them what I'll take, they pull the boxes, we go to a computer where they run me through DROS and then we move to a register and ring me up.

The employee asks what I need, I said I'd like to see what you have and prices on some ammo. He says, "can I have your ID?". I asked "for what, I just want to see what you have and prices". He says he still needs my ID to run through DROS and make sure I can purchase. He further explained that it would be a waste of his time if I can't buy. I told him I'd been purchasing from them for years and never have never shown my ID just for seeing what they have and pricing. I also tell him how it's normally done here. He says, "not with me" then he asks "does that make sense?". I say "No, it doesn't make sense, I'm just inquiring". He repeats it again and then asks me the same question, so I answer again with "no, it still doesn't make sense". He says "then I can't help you." I'm thinking WTF, so I ask for someone else and he just stands there and looks straight ahead like a robot that's just shut down. I couldn't believe how much of a turd this guy was.

I knew they had one thing on sale that a friend told me about, but wasn't sure about everything else. It was getting late and I had no time to return before the weekend when I need to be training. At this point I'm frustrated and just wanted to get the hell out of there, so I give him my ID, he runs it and looks at me and says, "Now that wasn't so bad, was it?, you passed. I look at him and say, "yes, it was and it was also unnecessary." After that everything went as it always has.

I've been to numerous shops and private FFL's and they've never run my ID like this. Is this the norm for others?

The only thing I can figure is that he was offended by my FJB ball cap.

These Bass Pro gun counter guys all have huge chips on their shoulders. I would have spoken to the manager. He's paid by the hour and not wasting anyones time by providing you with prices other than to power trip, and may have even caused a loss of a sale. Dickhead.

I had to leave as the wife and kids were waiting for me at the mall, so I called when I got home. The manager was at dinner and was told he'd call after. He never did, so I'll call again today.

Why would you talk to a manager who doesn't know what's going on in their own store?

Nothing speaks louder than your wallet- shop elsewhere and email BP's customer service that "Fred's" insolent behavior (or whatever his name is, you got his name right?) fired you as a customer and you've found other places to spend.
If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there

              Which store was this?
Name of the dildo that caused all this?

You should have then asked for the price of every single box of ammo that they had. Get him to ring up a batch of ammo and before paying, tell him you changed your mind.

The continuing death spiral of good customer service would be an asset to a company that would focus on the customer again like it used to be pre Covid.

The Covid nonsense seemed to be the start of the customer service downfall.

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Sportsman's Warehouse in Brentwood and asked the clerk to see some ammo in the locked case.

I was told I had to show my real ID before he would open the case.

I believe this is the new normal we have to put up with to get what we want.

I was able to buy some scarce Shotgun ammo that hasn't been available for some time

It would have been stupid for me to throw a fit and leave with out the ammo. I just bit my Tongue and went with it.

Doesn't make sense at all, running eligibility check requires $1, otherwise there is no realistic need to show ID.

That hire probably will quit within the end of his 3 months or so employment to collect unemployment.
